Onkyo TX-NR1007

$1,500.00 Released January, 2009

Product Shot 1 The Pros:Many HD inputs - 9 in total. DLNA certified - will play music from PCs on a home network without needing any additional hardware. Well supported - firmware updates available from the manufacturer.

The Cons:Poor user interface for Internet radio, Pandora and streaming content. Fairly loud when switching between A/V sources. Remote control - not intuitive, especially when used for controlling music.

The Onkyo TX-NR1007 is one of three network- and internet-radio-ready, 9.2-channel THX Ultra2 Plus certified A/V receivers released in September 2009. It features 8 HDMI 1.3a inputs, as well as video processing with 1080p/24 upscaling (via an advanced HQV Reon-VX chipset) for all video inputs — including component.

Included also are two integrated amps that can be used with Audysey DSX and Dolby ProLogic Iiz to setup an immersive, 9-channel soundstage for both movies and games. The audio is further enhanced by a trio of TI Aureus DSP Chips, Burrr Brown’s 32-bit DAC, and Onkyo's exclusive VLSC (Vector Linear Shaping Circuitry); all-together, they work to ensure optimal performance in any environment and at any specific volume level. Configuration is perhaps the most complicated aspect, as the TX-NR1007 can be setup as a full 9.2-channel theater system; setup to power two independent stereo zones in addition to a 5-channel theater set-up; and setup with two channels powering a second pair of main speakers for dedicated listening.

Additional Information

All three models offer advanced networking capabilities, including PC streaming for Pandora, Rhapsody, vTuner, and Sirus Internet Radio services. Each is also Windows 7 compatible and hosts a DLNA 1.5 certification, allowing compatibility with other network-enabled equipment.
